In the build-up to Manchester City's Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sky Sports, Carragher was questioned by host Jones whether his comment was a joke, however, the former defender refused to clarify his comments. The conversation prompted Jones to joke that Manchester City likely have a 'Carragher-wall' with all of his critiques noted to motivate the side.

WHAT WAS SAID IN THE SKY SPORTS STUDIO

In the Premier League build-up show on Sky Sports, Jones asked Carragher: "You were joking with your comment this week, right?"

Carragher responded: "Listen, that illness may have carried over to Virgil van Dijk-itis. Yeah [I was joking]."

Jones joked: "Think City have pinned it to the wall, along with all of Jamie's other comments this season. There's a whole Carragher wall in that City changing room."

Carragher chimed in: "Listen, that's been going on for quite a few years. But listen, I think there's no doubt, I said this in this fixture at Anfield that the battle between Haaland and Van Dijk. I actually think, Haaland is one of the best strikers out there, Van Dijk one of the best centre-backs. But I think Van Dijk's got the edge in the sense that he is better at his position than Haaland is [in his position]."

WHAT NEXT FOR MAN CITY?

Guardiola's side will now take Liverpool later today at Etihad Stadium, however, Haaland's fitness for the clash remains under doubt. As such, it remains likely that Carragher could have a few more jokes up his sleeve after the game.
