Rooney initially left himself open to offers, admitting that he could be persuaded to fill roles with U21 or backroom teams. He has, however, returned to punditry duty – with Amazon Prime and Match of the Day – and is happy spending stress-free time with his family.

It hasn't worked out at certain clubs. It's something he's passionate about. It's something he might revisit. He's passionate about TV.”
